What You’ll Love About Your Skydive

Skydiving

Your first skydive is unlike anything you’ve done before. In the run-up to the event, excitement, nerves, trepidation, anticipation… it all builds up to that moment when you finally get to jump out of the airplane and into one of the greatest experiences of your life.

Here, we’ll do our best to outline all the things you’ll love about your skydive.

You’ll love… feeling like you’re flying

One of the common preconceptions about skydiving is that it feels like being on a rollercoaster. You know that feeling when you’re at the theme park and on one of the rides? When you’re speeding along the tracks, your heart in your mouth and the rush and movement throwing you all around? It’s exhilarating… but it’s nothing like skydiving.

It’s true that you do get a bit of that stomach-flipping sensation as you leave the aircraft. But on the whole, being in freefall feels much more like flying, or being cushioned on the air. It’s a feeling of weightlessness, of freedom. It’s incredibly peaceful and you’ll love how it makes you feel like you finally understand how birds must feel!

You’ll love… that it’s not as scary as you thought!

It’s completely understandable that you’ll be a bit scared when you go to jump. After all, you’re jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, right?

For the vast majority of people who jump with us, that fear dissipates pretty soon after the airplane takes off, to be replaced by excitement and wonder at what’s happening around them. Even if you’re scared of heights, that feeling will reduce or go away entirely once you realize that skydiving really isn’t as scary as you thought.

Much of what makes it seem ‘scary’ is the height. The reality is that, as you look down from the airplane, the ground is so far away that it feels surreal. It’s not a height we can easily get our heads around so it stops being scary.

There’s also the fear of the unknown. When we don’t know what to expect or what it’s going to be like, we can be fearful. Once you arrive to make your skydive with us, and once it’s done, you’ll have learned much more about our sport than you knew before. You’ll look back on your jump with fondness rather than fear.

You’ll love… the happiness you get when you jump

Adrenaline sports like skydiving increase your emotions and get your blood really pumping!

This happens because the body is thrown into a ‘fight or flight’ response, making you incredibly alert. The sensation is one of heightened awareness, helping you to take in what’s happening around you.

Another bodily response to an exciting event like skydiving is for hormones to be released, affecting how you feel on a more emotional level. Serotonin, which is the body’s happiness hormone, floods your body when you skydive.

It gives you an immense feeling of happiness that lasts not only during your jump but for days afterward! You’ll be walking around with a huge smile on your face!

You’ll love that… skydiving is empowering

Have you ever done something that takes you out of your comfort zone quite like skydiving?

If you have, you’ll know how empowering it is. If you haven’t, you’re about to learn…

Doing something that makes us uncomfortable or scared is an incredibly empowering thing. When we face our fears head-on, we change our perception of what we can and can’t achieve. We reset everything as we know it, taking the impossible and making it possible.

Now imagine how that relates to the rest of your life. Things that seemed too big or too daunting are suddenly do-able. Because we’ve done something that scared us before.
